Introduction  

We encourage applications from qualified individuals for the Horticulturalist position at Rainbow Tourism Group. This role is located in Nyanga and Kadoma.  


Summary  

The primary objective is to supervise and manage the cultivation of vegetables and other horticultural crops at RTG Agro farms in Nyanga and Kadoma, ensuring a steady supply of high-quality produce for RTG hotels throughout Zimbabwe. Responsibilities include crop planning, production management, pest and disease management, and harvesting to meet hospitality demands.  


Responsibilities  

- Develop, oversee, and assess the complete horticultural production cycle from nursery to harvest  

- Ensure that planting and harvesting are executed in a timely manner to suit hotel consumption schedules  

- Apply best agricultural practices, including soil management, irrigation, crop rotation, and organic farming when suitable  

- Monitor and manage pests, diseases, and weeds using environmentally friendly techniques  

- Keep precise records of inputs, production volumes, and yields  

- Collaborate with RTG hotels and procurement regarding vegetable supply needs and delivery schedules  

- Ensure adherence to food safety and quality regulations  

- Supervise estate workers and offer technical advice and training  

- Recommend and oversee the acquisition of necessary inputs, equipment, and materials  

- Engage in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting related to agro production  

- Promote sustainable and climate-smart farming methods  

- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders for value addition  


Person Specification  

- Diploma or degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Crop Science, or a related area  

- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in vegetable or crop cultivation  

- Experience in commercial farming or agro-processing for hospitality/agri-business is a plus  

- Familiarity with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and post-harvest handling standards  

- Strong agronomic and technical understanding of vegetable cultivation  

- Excellent planning and time management abilities  

- Capability to manage resources effectively and achieve production targets  

- Strong leadership and supervisory qualities  

- Keen attention to detail and quality  

- Outstanding communication and reporting skills  

- Ability to work independently in an agricultural environment
