Position Title: Research Officer

Duty Station: Harare, Zimbabwe

Key Responsibilities:

1. Market Intelligence & Sector Research

- Evaluate industry trends, innovative technologies, and relevant economic data tied to the company's investment sectors.  
 
- Prepare reports on high-growth industries such as fintech, agri-tech, renewable energy, health, and ICT.

- Monitor macroeconomic and regulatory changes influencing the investment environment.

2. Startup & Ecosystem Mapping

- Discover and categorize startups, SMEs, and entrepreneurs with potential eligibility for NVCCZ funding.

- Sustain a current database of viable projects, innovation hubs, as well as ecosystem partners and stakeholders.

3. Investment Support

- Aid the investment team in pre-screening opportunities by offering contextual market data.

- Assist in the due diligence process by researching target firms, their competitors, and comparative valuations.

4. Portfolio & Impact Reporting

- Help monitor portfolio companies by gathering and assessing performance data.

- Compile reports on social, environmental, and economic impact indicators that align with the fund's goals.

5. Knowledge Management

- Oversee internal knowledge systems and assist in strategic planning with data-driven insights.

6. Stakeholder Engagement

- Conduct background research for meetings with investors, investee companies, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.

- Assist in preparing pitch decks, data rooms, and investor updates backed by thorough research.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Development, Finance, Statistics, Business Administration, Development Studies, or a related discipline.

A minimum of 2 years experience in research, economic analysis, management consulting, or investment settings.

Familiarity with startups, private equity, or development finance is highly regarded.

A valid Class 4 Driver’s License.

Skills:

Robust analytical and quantitative abilities (skilled in Excel, SPSS, PowerPoint, etc.).

Outstanding writing and communication skills for producing high-quality reports and briefs.

Knowledge of business model analysis, impact metrics, and investment criteria.

Strong organizational and data management skills.
